Covid-19 Member Communications

Dear Valued Y Members,

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is looking forward to welcoming back our youngest of members to our active older adults, and everyone in-between for Y programs and services that keep our community healthy and connected.

For the safety of our members, program participants and staff, we will be very thoughtful and intentional about how and when we reopen. We are continuing to listen very closely to the Governor, and we have engaged in conversations with our local health department and local officials.

When we are given the authorization to reopen, and are confident in our ability to safely do so, we plan, at this point, to reopen in stages. This approach will allow us to prepare our facilities, train our staff, and help members get situated with the new systems in place to keep you and our staff healthy. We will also follow the Governor’s orders in regards to physical distancing, capacity limits (if required), and keeping areas of our facilities closed as necessary.

As soon as we have an opening date available, we will be in touch with further information on our reopening stages, including hours and amenities available, and other information we know you'll need to plan your visit.

We are so incredibly grateful to the people who have stood by us throughout these challenging times. Thank you for staying with us as we transitioned our resources to meet critical needs in our community by having weekly food and hygiene supplies to help our local charitable partners and families in need, reaching out to seniors to help prevent social isolation, hosting American Red Cross blood drives to ensure that our community has access to a safe and plentiful blood supply, conducting wellness checks with our seniors who are isolating at home and providing virtual tools to keep you healthy and connected at home.

Dear Y Members,

Since our mandated closure, we have been diligently reducing controllable costs while refocusing our efforts, facilities, and resources, to proactively meet the most critical needs of our community. We hope you’ve all been keeping healthy and connected during this challenging time, through the virtual workouts on our website and our social media pages.

We want to thank you for staying with us over the past three and a half weeks. With your support, we were able to pay all staff, in full, on April 3rd and again on April 17th. We rely predominantly on membership and program revenue to allow us to continue making a life-changing impact, but these have been severely reduced because of COVID-19. As a result, we made the difficult decision to furlough staff effective April 13th. With no end in sight, we have to now focus on protecting the long-term health of our local charitable organization, which has been serving the community since 1866.

All YMCA memberships have now been placed on hold, at no charge, effective Friday, April 10th. This means that you will not be charged moving forward until we reopen our doors.

As a charitable organization, our ability to remain viable depends on our members and donors. Without membership dues and program fees, we can’t generate income to help us sustain our efforts. We fully intend to re-open when it is safe, but, since no one can pinpoint a timeline, it puts our Y in a very challenging position.

YOU CAN HELP.

While we are committed to putting your account on hold, if you’d like to continue your membership uninterrupted or choose to make a tax-deductible charitable donation each month we remain closed, we would be forever grateful. We invite you to complete our Membership Choice Form by clicking the button below and let us know which membership option is best for you.

Your Membership Choices: 

  • Sustaining Member: Please continue to accept my membership dues without change. My membership dues will continue uninterrupted and will go towards maintaining YMCA facilities, serve the community as needed during this crisis, and cover fixed costs, thereby enabling the Y to re-open as soon as we can.

  • Monthly Donation: Please accept this donation for each month the Y remains closed to help the Y continue mission-critical charitable work and send me confirmation for tax purposes. This will revert back to my regular membership dues upon the Y reopening.

  • Membership Hold: Please place my membership on hold for free. I do not want to be charged until the facility reopens. I understand that my membership will restart automatically when the Y reopens and that I will pay no join fee, which may occur upon cancellation. No action is needed on your part for this option.

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW MORE THAN EVER.

Dear Valued Y Members,

These last weeks have been challenging for us all. As time passes and the uncertainty grows, our non-profit charitable organization may be forced to make some difficult decisions.

Since closing our doors on March 16th our priorities have been to support our 650 employees, and to make sure our Y is financially stable and prepared to reopen and serve the community when the governor and public health officials deem it to be safe.

We are proud to say that the Saratoga Regional YMCA has been committed to paying all staff, and hope to be able to continue to do so; with your support, we will.

As many of our operating expenses remain the same during this closure and our programs have been discontinued, for the time being, membership dues are our only current source of revenue.

The membership draft dates of April 1st and 15th are approaching and we are asking that you remain an active Y member and pay your membership dues so we can remain viable and ready to resume business.

In the coming days, we ask you to think about the Y staff that you’ve connected with in our facilities. Whether it was an instructor in one of your favorite group exercise classes, one of our friendly membership staff who welcome you each and every day, or the caregiver of your child in one of our daycare classrooms -- we need your support.

The YMCA is more than a place, we are a community of individuals that believe in the strength of unity. Our doors may be closed, but we are still hard at work fulfilling our mission and continuing to serve those who need us most.

As a valued Y member, we ask for your support and to STAY WITH US during this mandated closure. Keeping your membership active will help ensure we remain fully focused on our efforts to support our community and adjust quickly when called upon.

We do understand that many of you may be experiencing financial hardship during this unprecedented time, and we want you to know that we are here for you. In an effort to help, we’ve set up questions@srymca.org in order to respond to your questions and concerns.

A LETTER FROM OUR CEO
 

Dear valued Y members, 

While we know how important the Y is to you and all the communities we serve, the health and well-being of you and our staff are our highest priority.

Adjusting our services is not unique to the Y which makes us well prepared to handle these uncertain times. During this time of need, we are working on ways to support our youth, families, and our senior population to stay healthy in spirit, mind, and body. All SRY members are encouraged to access Y360: Your Virtual YMCA at no cost to stay healthy at home. There will be a total of 60 group exercise classes available within the next few days.
 
We know many of you are wondering about your membership dues during this closure. We are asking you to consider continuing your membership at this time. The YMCA is a community benefit, non-profit charitable organization. We are currently paying our 600+ staff that are scheduled to work but can’t, and hope to be able to do so for the duration of our closure. Your membership dues will continue to allow us to do this for as long as possible.
 
As our facilities are closed and we’re not reachable by phone, we’ve set up questions@srymca.org in order to respond to your questions and concerns.  Staff will be minimally managing this inbox from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.  Due to the nature of the situation, we ask that you please allow our staff at least 24 hours to respond.

Again, this is an extraordinarily challenging time, unlike anything we have experienced. While we need to maintain social distancing today, our Y community is strong and connected. We will continue to communicate with members and the community both through email and on our website as new information becomes available. 

We will get through this together, and when we emerge from this challenging moment, we look forward to welcoming you and your families back through our doors.

OPERATIONS SUSPENDED BEGINNING AT 8 PM, MARCH 16th

There has been a new development since this morning's member communication regarding our facility closures. At the direction of the governor, all SRYMCA branches will close at 8 PM this evening, Monday, March 16th.

As you know, the Coronavirus is an unprecedented emergency both nationally and in our local communities, and things are changing by the hour. We thank you for your patience and will continue to provide updates as they relate to the operations of our 5 branches.

A LETTER FROM OUR CEO

Dear valued Y members,

As the COVID-19 pandemic remains ever-changing and at the urging of Governor Cuomo, the Saratoga Regional YMCA has made the difficult decision to suspend all operations at all locations effective at the end of business day Monday, March 16th.

One exception to the association wide closure is that our Malta Early Learning Center will suspend operations effective at the end of business day Tuesday, March 17th. This will give parents with children enrolled there some additional time to find alternative care.

With over 600 staff and over 28,000 members, this decision to temporarily close does not come lightly, but comes with one major goal in mind – to protect the health and well-being of not only our community and staff, but our 154 year old not-for-profit charity.

As an organization rooted in social responsibility, we must take the necessary steps to slow the spread of this illness through social distancing.  Our leadership team continues to meet daily, seek counsel from our governing Board of Directors, and follow guidance from local and state health departments, in order to make the most informed and thorough decisions throughout this unprecedented event.

We will reassess at the end of March in hopes of resuming operations with a tentative date of Monday, April 6th.

I know these moments are challenging, but our community is strong, and I have no doubt that we will get through this ever changing crisis, together.  We will look to communicate more details in the coming days as we have more decisions to share.

SAFEGUARDING OUR HEALTH

The Saratoga Regional YMCA is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who enters our doors. There are growing concerns about the potential spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) and other respiratory illnesses. In an effort to keep our members healthy and prevent the spread of germs, we want to share some important information.

Our facilities are conducting frequent cleaning of door handles, fitness equipment, railings, fountains, locker rooms, tables/counter tops, phones and other common “high-touch” items. We have ensured that we are diligent in cleaning areas used by children throughout the day and have posted signage in all of our branches to help prevent the spread of illnesses in our own Y community. 

As stated by the CDC and local health departments, hand washing remains the most effective method of preventing the spread of germs, including these respiratory illnesses. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

In the coming days we will be installing Safehandles, an antimicrobial technology/surface sanitizer, that is proven to reduce exposure to germs, at all of our locations. 

Please also keep in mind that it is especially important to wipe down all equipment before and after use.

Additional everyday actions to help prevent the spread of illness, include:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick until you’ve been free of fever for 24 hours.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a disinfectant wipe.

If you or a loved one are experiencing flu-like symptoms, including fever, cough and shortness of breath, please stay home, rest and contact your medical provider.

Please be assured that we are monitoring the situation and preparing for the possibility that our daily program and work routines could be impacted if the situation significantly worsens. We will keep everyone updated with information as it develops.
