Infant Teacher Assistant

Assists in planning and implementation of daily program activities and curriculum for assigned classroom. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.


  • Assists Teacher in the implementation of daily lesson plans and activities, and actively participates in classroom instruction.
  • Adheres to YMCA and/or OCFS guidelines for proper verbal interaction, proper learn and play techniques, as well as age appropriate redirection as a form of discipline.
  • Supports behavioral management plans, and maintains confidentiality, sensitivity and patience with the children and parents through appropriate verbal interactions.
  • Completes accurate and timely records of attendance, progress and behavioral reports, as assigned.
  • Supports and role models the Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards while promoting child participation in activities and discussions about healthy living.
  • Follows all YMCA and/or OCFS policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Identifies potential volunteers.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Ability to articulate and model the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Wear required and approved uniform items at all time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Minimum age of 16 years old; Must be able to furnish working papers.
  • 1+ years of childcare experience with children under age 13 years old.
  • Current CPR PRO & First Aid certifications.

  • May handle human body fluids as part of the daily operational duties.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
