Reopening FAQ

When is the Y reopening?

We are excited to welcome you back to our Battenkill, Malta, Saratoga Springs, and Wilton branches on Tuesday, September 1st! Our Corinth Branch will open on Tuesday, September 8th.

What are the new operating hours?

Malta, Saratoga Springs, and Wilton:

  • Monday-Sunday | 5am-8pm

Battenkill and Corinth:

  • Monday-Friday | 5am-8pm
  • Saturday & Sunday | 7am-1pm

Is a membership required?

Yes, you must be an active member to enter the YMCA, no exceptions.

We are not allowing guest passes or NATIONWIDE at this time.

What is your capacity?

Per the NY Forward guidelines requiring gyms/fitness centers to allow no more than 33% capacity of all of our facilities.

Members can track the capacity in our facilities in real time by visiting https://srymca.org/locations/branch-capacity or clicking on “Capacity Tracker” in your SRYMCA mobile app.

Why are you closing at 8pm?

We are currently operating at reduced hours and closing at 8pm in order to deep clean each facility before reopening the next day.

Are masks required inside at the Y?

Yes. Members and staff are required to wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times. Gaiters, bandanas and buffs are not acceptable face coverings. If someone has a medical condition that prohibits them from wearing a mask they must wear a face shield.

Did you update your HVAC system?

HVAC systems have been upgraded to utilize MERV-13 filters in accordance with NY Forward guidelines.

Why am I still being charged?

All accounts were placed on hold in April and we have not charged any Y members since that date, unless you opted in to becoming a sustaining member or making a monthly donation during our mandated closure. If you have seen charges on your account since April, please contact us so that we can look into this for you.

I know membership accounts have been on hold, when will you start charging me again? What if I’m not ready to be charged?

As we prepare to reopen September 1st, all memberships will be activated and begin being charged. If you are not ready to activate your membership, please contact us asap to place your membership on hold. We have a 90-day hold policy.

If your membership is active, it will be reactivated for the month of September and your membership fees drafted on your regularly scheduled processing date.

Are we taking the temperatures of everyone who enters the Y? What does your health screen consist of?

No, we will not be conducting daily temperature checks for our members. Our health screen consists of five COVID-19 related questions required by NYS.

I am concerned about the cleanliness, social distancing, and people not wearing masks properly. How will you control that?

We are following guidelines from NYS, which includes physical distancing, closing and rearranging of equipment to ensure proper distance, and signage to encourage distancing throughout every area of the facility. Our staff have been trained and will be ensuring all members are following these guidelines. If not, they will be asked to leave our facility. No exceptions will be made.

What are your cleaning procedures?

All locker rooms and restrooms will be cleaned every two hours. We have also increased our cleaning procedures and staff to make sure we are doing our best to keep our members and staff safe. We are also asking our members to clean equipment before and after use.

Are reservations required to visit the Y?

Reservations are not required to enter our Ys for fitness activity. Reservations are only required for lap lane activity in our Saratoga Springs Branch pool, and also for our Outdoor Group Exercise Classes. Make your reservation or download the mobile app in preparation for making a reservation.

Is there a time limit for how long I can exercise inside the Y?

As we are operating at a reduced capacity, we ask that all members reduce their workout time to 60 minutes per day.

Will you have equipment outdoors for members to use?

We will have a limited variety of cardio equipment available outdoors for use. We will not have any strength equipment outside at this time.

Are you doing outdoor exercise classes? Do they follow the same guidelines as indoors?

Yes! We have slightly different parameters and guidelines for outdoor classes. We currently offer outdoor classes at our Saratoga and Battenkill Branches. Outdoor classes will begin soon at our Malta and Wilton branches.

I don’t feel comfortable coming back to the Y yet. Are you offering virtual workouts?

Yes! We are offering virtual workouts through our members only Facebook group that includes Facebook live videos and pre-recorded workouts from your favorite SRY instructors.
