September 8, 2024

Nayana Shanka, a nine-year-old Junior tennis player at the Saratoga Regional YMCA - Wilton Branch, was able to present one of the awards for the 2024 US Open Tennis Championships in Queens, NY.

Nayana presented the trophy that was awarded to the second-place finisher, Jessica Pegula. Both former tennis player and ESPN analyst Mary Joe Fernández and tennis legend Billie Jean King welcomed Shankar to the podium as she placed the trophy.

Jed Murray, SRYMCA Director of Tennis, was able to nominate Nayana to participate in one of the the United States Tennis Association’s Orange Ball Early Development Camps. While there, Murray said, she showed “exemplary behavior” and earned a chance to volunteer at the US Open.
