PWR!Moves

Offered at the Saratoga Springs branch.

PWR = Parkinson's Wellness Recovery

PWR!Moves classes integrate Parkinson’s Disease specific skill training into a multimodal exercise program (flexibility, strength, balance, agility, aerobics). The specificity of training begins by targeting four motor control skills shown to deteriorate and adversely affect everyday movement for people with Parkinson's. These foundational skills (i.e., antigravity extension, weight shifting, axial mobility, transitions) correspond to each of the Basic 4 PWR!Moves (PWR! Up, PWR! Rock, PWR! Twist, PWR! Step) and are used as building blocks of function.

The classes are led by a PWR!Moves Certified Instructor.

PWR!Moves are:

  • Performed slowly, rhythmically, and with sustained effort.
  • Performed as big and fast as possible with repetitive effort.
  • Linked together into sequences that mimic everyday movement to improve coordination.
  • Performed in conjunction with everyday motor and cognitive tasks.

Program Cost:

PWR!Moves classes are FREE for SRYMCA members who meet the requirements. If you are not an active SRYMCA member, there is a $5 per class charge.
